Wow, I can't believe August is here. That means I am half-way through my trip and I will home sooner rather than later.
So I have some catching up to do here. Well nothing really to tell you about, been taking it easy. We were all souvenir and sight-seed out after our first day in Tallin. We took the luxury of sleeping in lots in Tallin because nothing opens before noon and our hostel never got cleaned I'm sure so we never had to get out of the cleaning man/woman's way. One morning we got up and went to a Greek restaurant and had banana and chocolate crepes. Yum!
After last I posted, Deanna and I went back to the hostel and got ready to go out on the town. Night clubs are from Wed-Sun so we started at the Beer House for a few beers and live music. Then we went to a pub called Hell Hunt. Really popular place with all sorts of people. An American man named Andrew sat down with us. He's been living in Belgium for 6 years and makes frequent visits to Tallin. He invited us out with some of his friends and it was really cool to meet actual Estonians our age.
No one else came out as they made a day trip to Helsinki. I didn't really feel the need to go to Helsinki after reading about it in the travel books and I didn't want to go on the boat for 4 hours again. So we rolled in at 3 am and the rest of the group got up at 7am to go to a far away beach.
Deanna and I slept in and then took a bus to a near-by beach called Pirita. Four nastly bus drivers who refused to help us later, we finally got on a bus where a nice lady from New York helped us navigate... who says New Yorkers are mean? Anyways, it was awesome, amazing sand! It was the perfect day for the beach too because there was a cool breeze so you didn't feel disgustinly hot. Took a dip in the ocean, much warmer than the watering hole in Stockholm! The beach the rest of the group went to had mud baths and a water park but the baths were closed and the water park was indoors so they didn't even do those so I'm happy with the choice of beach we went to.
We only spent about 3 hours on the beach and then came back, showered and went out for Truffle Cream pasta part deux. I am very sad that I will never have that meal again!
We borrowed a movie from the front desk, Maid in Manhatten and watched it and went to bed. The rest of the group was majorly sunburnt but went out for a beer, I chose my bed, mp3 player and book :)
Today we caught a bus to Riga. 4 hours on a luxury bus with a nice driver and a bathroom we were allowed to use. Sounds good to me!
Our hostel is just steps from the bus station so that was nice. We went out for supper as soon as we got here. $13 Canadian got me a tiny bottle of coke and a tiny pasta salad. So we hit the McDonalds for some fries to fill the void. Oh the LATS will kill us, I can't believe how much they are worth!
Since it is Friday I am going to go back to the hostel and shower and go out.... to where, I don't know. But this place is pretty scary so I dunno what will happen.... stay tuned!
Also, if I don't get onto the internet tomorrow, Happy EARLY Birthday to my bro Derek!!!
