Still hot and bright

I am still alive but still very hot!! I can't believe this. This morning we got tricked since it was overcast but then it cleared up and the insane heat and brightness of the sun came out and we were sad.

But anyways, last night we decided to go for supper by the canal. Boy was that a mistake. For one it stinks.... and you can get splashed with water. But it was cool cause we saw some Venetian fire fighters... they were in a boat putting on their gear on the way to a fire. Neat!

Anyways, we chose a restaurant and sit down and the host comes and says it is reserved even though there is no sign.... BULL! It was a table of 4 so we moved to a table of 2. So the meal was alright but a tad expensive and then we wanted another glass of wine but we were told no, the table is reserved. GRRRR!!!! We waited 25 minutes for our bill, we could have had another glass. I didn't want to tip but Deanna did.... I wanted to paste a sign over their menu and say how bad the restaurant was and stand there and tell people as well. GRRR!

Anyways, we went back to the hostel and were asleep by 10.

This morning we were out the door by 8am to line up for St. Mark's Basilica. We grabbed toast to go and got on the water bus with very few people and were like the 10th people in line. Score! The basilica is amazing, completely all in mosaics and we got a good view of the square. Then we went to the Ducal (Doge's) Palace and toured that and got to go in the Bridge of Sighs.

We went for lunch at the same air-conditionned place as yesterday and it was excellent as before and then we went to get a purse Deanna had seen the day before. Tres expensive but really nice. We fought the heat and crowds and then got back on the water bus back to Rialto and here I am. We are going to try and find some sun dresses as the rest of Italy is probably going to be just as bad, then we'll try to hit up the beach at Lido. Can't wait to get to Florence tomorrow!
